JOINT MINISTRY MISSION FOR MINES, FOREIGN AFFAIRS, AFRICAN INTEGRATION, ENVIRONMENT, ECONOMIC INFRASTRUCTURE AND WATER AND FORESTS IN ACCRA, GHANA, 24-26 APRIL 2017.

A joint delegation of Ministries in charge of Mining, Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Environment, Economic Infrastructure and Water and Forests, carried out a mission in Accra, Ghana from 24 to 26 April 2017.

This mission led by Mr. Jean Claude BROU, Minister of Mines and Industry of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, aimed to discuss with the Ghanaian Authorities in order to find a solution to the pollution upstream of the watersheds of BIA, TANOE and ABY Lagoon.

The meeting with the local authorities was held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana in Accra, and allowed the Ivorian delegation to inform the Ghanaian authorities of the adverse impacts of illicit gold mining activities in Ghana on the rivers and water bodies of South Eastern Côte d'Ivoire, and to initiate a dialogue between the two (2) countries in finding a lasting solution to the pollution of lagoons and border rivers.

At the end of the discussions, it was agreed to set up an ad hoc high-level ad hoc committee to monitor and resolve this issue as soon as possible.

The Ivorian delegation consisted of:
- Mr. Jean-Claude BROU, Minister of Industry and Mines;
- H.E. Mr Louis BONY, Director General of Bilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
- Mr. DAOUDA Ya Bertin, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Industry and Mines;
- Colonel DIBI Niagne Martin, Director General of CIAPOL;
- Mr. DJAA Koffi Antoine, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Economic Infrastructure.
